APExL Academy is the home of a 14-day all inclusive leadership and adventure program for high school students, designed to build leadership skills, earn real-world certifications, and participate in adventure-based challenges. The program is held annually and provides an immersive experience that prepares students for college, careers, and life’s challenges. 

APExL is designed for motivated students eager to build leadership skills, push their limits, and participate in unique, hands-on adventures. The program is not intended for therapy or remediation. Participants should be prepared to engage fully and embrace challenges. 

Our students come from across the United States, representing diverse communities and backgrounds. 

No. Currently, the program is only available to U.S. citizens who meet the eligibility criteria. 

 Participants must be at least 14 years old, currently enrolled in high school in the United States, and U.S. citizens. There are no specific extracurricular or leadership requirements, though involvement in extracurriculars is encouraged. 

The application process ensures a good fit for students and the program. It includes:

• Submission of an online application with background information.
• Essays about goals and motivations.
• A self-evaluation.
• One reference from a teacher, coach, or mentor.
• A physical exam record from within the past 12 months.

The deadline to apply for the 2025 program is March 31st, 2025. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, and spaces are limited. 

 Head to our online application portal and complete your application. Spots are reserved upon submission and review of your application. 

Applications are reviewed within five working days. Applicants will be notified of acceptance no later than the second week of April 2025. 

Once accepted, students receive a welcome packet with:

• A program schedule.
• Gear and packing lists.
• Access to a pre-program Zoom meeting.
• Other important information for their program

Yes. Students are always supervised by staff, paired with a buddy, or in groups. No student is left alone during the program. 

Sessions run on Saturdays and Sundays, offering a mix of leadership development, physical activities, and hands-on learning. The exact schedule varies based on the activity and location. 

Yes, the program includes physically demanding activities that maintain fitness, but it is not a dedicated sports training program. Some free time is available for personal training. 

Students are encouraged to unplug and focus on the experience. Phones are allowed but will have limited use, typically in the evenings. Wi-Fi access is not guaranteed due to the remote nature of many activities. 

We accommodate common dietary needs such as vegetarian, no pork, and no fish. However, some requests may be challenging to fulfill due to activity locations. Please contact us with specific concerns. 

While students cannot skip program activities for religious observances, we can provide personal time for spiritual reflection and accommodate most dietary restrictions. 

Yes. Safety is our top priority. APExL staff implement comprehensive safety measures, and parents must sign liability waivers to ensure understanding of risks. 

Our staff will arrange for immediate medical care, including transportation to the nearest clinic or hospital. Families will be notified immediately if a medical emergency occurs. 

Students should bring an adequate supply of medication, along with the original prescription and their physician’s contact information. This information must be included in the medical form provided during enrollment. 

Yes, all staff are certified in First Aid and CPR. Some instructors also hold advanced certifications, such as Wilderness First Responder. 

Yes. Clinics and hospitals near all program locations have been identified to ensure quick and professional care when needed. 

Parents can contact staff directly or use the 24/7 emergency support hotline for urgent matters. Students will have access to their phones daily to check in with family. 

Tuition for the six-week program is $7,995 and covers all expenses, including gear, transportation, and lunches. 

 Yes. Refunds are offered based on timing:

• More than 30 days before the program start date: Full refund.
• Between 30 days and two weeks before the start date: 50% refund.
• Less than two weeks before the start date: No refund.
