—Program Requirements—
All applicants must meet eligibility requirements
APExL Academy has clear eligibility and participation standards to ensure all students are prepared to meet the challenges of the program and make the most of their experience.
Eligibility Criteria
- Students must be at least 14 years old and currently enrolled in high school in the United States.
- Participants must be U.S. citizens.
- No prior leadership experience is required, though involvement in extracurricular activities is encouraged.
Physical Requirements
- Participants should work out at least two to three times per week to prepare for the program’s physical demands. The program is designed to push students both mentally and physically, so those unable to meet these standards are advised not to apply.
- A physical exam from within the last 12 months must be provided at the time of enrollment.
Equipment and Gear
Students will have required gear for each day of training, this includes:
- Backpack (provided at the start of the program)
- Notebook, pen, and pencil (provided at the start of the program)
- Uniform (worn during training and provided during the first week)
- Athletic shoes
A complete packing list will be provided at the time of acceptance into the program.
Commitment and Attendance
- There is no mandatory orientation, but all students are encouraged to attend our pre-program Zoom meeting to ensure they are prepared. Links will be sent prior to the start date.
- Participants must be present for at least 80% of the program to receive the APExL Elite Leadership certificate.
- All required online coursework must be completed prior to beginning the program to earn associated certifications, such as SCUBA or Wilderness First Aid.
- Students should expect to contribute five to eight hours per week outside of scheduled activities to stay on track.
Behavioral and Safety Requirements
- All participants must adhere to the Code of Conduct outlined in the program.
- Disciplinary actions for misconduct will be handled on a case-by-case basis and at the discretion of program staff.
- Parents or guardians are required to sign a general liability waiver for the program, as well as additional waivers for specific activities. An emergency contact form must also be completed.
These requirements ensure all participants are prepared, safe, and committed to the program, fostering an environment where every student can succeed.
